The origin of BBQ pork slices was created in Singapore as poor man's food way back in the early 1900's! There are lots of these outlets in Singapore. Bee Chiang Heng franchises out their brand name where you can find outlets in Australia too! In Singapore, these BBQ pork slices are usually given as gifts to relatives, close friends & corporate customers close to the Chinese New Year period. Its a tradition that is done here in Singapore. It is also eaten all the year round but with more significance before the Chinese New Year period as you will see long queues around these outlets. As overseas Chinese have settled wide & far around the world, the types of food that is packaged as Chinese New Year gifts vary from country to country in their adopted homelands. So what is common practice in Singapore is not the norm in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, Chinese New Year gifts are egg rolls.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23929145.post-25023592277152737412008-11-03T04:34:00.000-08:002008-11-03T04:34:00.000-08:00Cool!
